The GitHub description: “The open-source design platform for Product teams that need scalable collaboration.” The product page names UI design (wireframes, prototypes, CSS Grid and Flex), design systems (components, tokens, libraries), code inspect (CSS, HTML, SVG, JSON), and AI-workflow integrations. Those are copied labels. We have not ranked it against Figma.

License correction: a previous Figma-hub sentence said AGPL-3.0. The LICENSE file and GitHub API on 2026-10-20 are MPL-2.0.

No, not on the LICENSE we opened 2026-10-20. The file is Mozilla Public License 2.0, and GitHub’s license field is MPL-2.0. Treat any older “AGPL-3.0” line on this site as stale.

What is the current release?

GitHub Releases latest is 2.18.3 (published 2026-10-06T12:46:50Z). Last push on develop was 2026-10-19T21:48:29Z.

Does it replace Figma?

We have no sourced bake-off. Penpot is a web design platform (self-host or penpot.app) with UI, prototypes, tokens, and CSS/HTML/SVG. FigCraft is a new alpha native Rust editor. See Figma alternatives.
