What the README says it does

Copied labels: frames, auto layout (wrap and grid), components and variants, local styles and variables, vector networks, boolean groups, paints and effects (including glass), in-place type, prototypes and Smart Animate-style transitions, Inspect / Dev Mode code (CSS, HTML, React, Leptos, SwiftUI, Compose), WASM plugins, 400+ commands, CLI / MCP / JSON control. Native files are .figcraft archives. SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP and PDF in and out; .fig files open best-effort.

Gaps versus Figma

The README IMPORTANT note (checked 2026-10-20): alpha; .fig is best-effort; multiplayer is a first preview (live sessions, no accounts/teams/cloud yet); has not been checked against real design documents. Sharing online uploads to a server (default collab.craftapps.dev) that stores the file unencrypted. Prefer a self-hosted figcraft-server or Penpot if you need a long-standing collab web app.

Is FigCraft free?

Yes. Dual MIT OR Apache-2.0 (LICENSE-MIT, LICENSE-APACHE, README, Cargo.toml, checked 2026-10-20). GitHub’s license field shows Apache-2.0. Not legal advice.

How mature is it? Does it replace Figma?

The README IMPORTANT note labels FigCraft alpha, with a vendor estimate of about 49% of the way to replacing proprietary tools for real work. .fig open is best-effort. Live multiplayer is a preview (no accounts). We do not claim Figma parity.

Does it collaborate like Figma?

Offline-first: files are local .figcraft archives, no account, no telemetry until you share. Live sessions (preview) can use a public server at collab.craftapps.dev or figcraft-server you host. The README says the public server stores files unencrypted and is not end-to-end encrypted. Penpot is the long-standing self-hosted web option.
