What the README says it does

Copied labels: slide masters and eleven layouts, eight original themes, 150+ preset shapes, connectors, merge shapes, in-place text, pictures, tables, charts, SmartArt basics, audio/video codecs listed in the README, transitions including Morph, entrance/emphasis/exit and motion-path animations, full-screen slide show, presenter view, open and save .pptx, PDF/PNG/JPEG/GIF export, 200+ scriptable commands, CLI, JSON control channel, MCP.

Gaps versus Microsoft PowerPoint

The README still says alpha. Breadth in docs/target-app-parity.md is copied as 84% of tracked features (92% of core ones, measured) and about 55% ready for real work (estimated). Those are vendor inventories. We have not opened a real-world .pptx corpus.

Mature suite option: LibreOffice Impress. OOXML collab: ONLYOFFICE. Hub: PowerPoint alternatives. AI/Markdown decks are a different job: Gamma alternatives (Presenton, Slidev).

Install (from the official README, not yet tested)

Linux desktop builds need ALSA headers (libasound2-dev / alsa-lib-devel). Fonts come from storytold/craft-fonts cloned next to the repo, or system fonts. Signed v0.8.0 installers are on GitHub Releases / the product page. forkalt has not run them.

How mature is it? Does it replace Microsoft PowerPoint?

The README labels DeckCraft alpha, heading for beta. It lists masters, themes, shapes, transitions (including Morph), animations, presenter view, and .pptx open/save. Vendor estimates: 84% feature breadth in its parity doc, about 55% ready for real work. We do not claim PowerPoint parity.

Which platforms and installers are listed?

Native macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD, plus the browser. Latest GitHub release is v0.8.0 (2026-10-18T03:51:17Z) with signed desktop builds. The GitHub homepage field also listed getartcraft.com/apps/slidecraft; the live product page we opened is getartcraft.com/apps/deckcraft. We have not run an installer.

Is this the same job as Presenton or Slidev?

No. DeckCraft is a PowerPoint-style editor. Presenton is an AI deck generator; Slidev is Markdown slides for developers. Those hang off Gamma alternatives, not this page.
