People look for a Microsoft PowerPoint alternative when they want an OSI-style license, a local .pptx editor, or a suite they can self-host. This hub lists tools we verified on 2026-10-20. PowerPoint is named only to identify that product class. AI deck generators hang off the Gamma hub, not here.

Quick take.

LibreOffice Impress — Presentation module of the MPL-2.0 LibreOffice suite. Latest branch 26.8.1.
ONLYOFFICE — AGPL-3.0 OOXML office suite (Docs server + desktop editors). Latest GitHub release v10.0.0.
DeckCraft — Pure-Rust clean-room PowerPoint-style slide app in the ArtCraft suite (alpha).

How we pick

Open-source license files we could open on an official host.
Slide / presentation editing (not Markdown-only unless noted).
Honest maturity: DeckCraft’s README calls it alpha.
No unsourced “beats PowerPoint” claims.

Who should switch

Need a mature free slide app this week: LibreOffice Impress.
Need self-hosted OOXML co-editing: ONLYOFFICE.
Want a new Rust PPTX editor and accept alpha: DeckCraft v0.8.0.
Need AI-generated decks or Markdown slides: Gamma alternatives (Presenton, Slidev).
Need sheets: Excel alternatives.

Limitations we actually sourced

DeckCraft README: alpha; ~55% ready (vendor). Impress 26.8.1 is a bug-fix line; production users may stay on 26.2 until 30 November 2026. ONLYOFFICE AGPL-3.0 applies if you offer the editors as a network service. We did not test Morph, presenter view, or embedded video.

Setup notes

Impress ships inside the LibreOffice installer. ONLYOFFICE: GitHub v10.0.0 Docs or Desktop assets. DeckCraft: signed v0.8.0 builds, or clone + cargo run; Linux needs ALSA headers; fonts from craft-fonts or the system. Not run here.

License notes

Not legal advice. MPL-2.0 vs AGPL-3.0 vs dual MIT/Apache-2.0. Read the upstream files.
