The LICENSE text is the Attribution Assurance License. OSI lists AAL at opensource.org/license/aal. GitHub’s license API is Other / NOASSERTION because it does not auto-map AAL. SPDX recorded here: AAL.

It hangs off Canva alternatives. Other tools on that hub: Inkscape, Krita, Penpot. UI-design as a Figma-class job: Figma alternatives.

README labels (copied): posters, social posts, stories, slides, invitations, resumes, thumbnails, business cards; export PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF, MP4, WebM, GIF; no paid plan; no account required to start; Docker or non-Docker self-host; ten starter templates; MCP server at /mcp (off by default). Those are project claims. forkalt has not counted templates or exports.

How to run (from the README, not tested)

cp .env.example .env
docker compose up -d --build

The README then says open http://localhost:8080 and add starter content. forkalt has not run this.

What we did not invent

  • No quality ranking against Canva, Penpot, or Inkscape.
  • Feature counts (icons, animations, templates) stay on the README.
  • We do not paraphrase the AAL attribution name from the LICENSE file; read the file.

FAQ

Is Doory actually open source?

The LICENSE file is the Attribution Assurance License (AAL), which OSI lists. GitHub reports Other / NOASSERTION. AAL is not MIT/Apache; read the attribution conditions. Not legal advice.

Is it a drop-in Canva replacement?

The GitHub description says “Open source canva alternative.” The README says the editor is complete and the template library is small (ten starter templates). We have no sourced side-by-side against Canva.

Can I self-host it?

The README documents Docker Compose (`docker compose up -d --build`) and a non-Docker path. Guests can start without an account; an account is described as cloud save / share / brand kits. We have not run the compose file.
