Open-Source Meshy Alternative (2026, Image-to-3D)
Identifying Meshy · Mark source

This hub lists open image-to-3D checkpoints people compare with Meshy-class hosted studios (also the Luma / Tripo / TRELLIS search). Meshy is named only to identify that product class. Lead row in this pass is Idol. We do not rank splat or mesh quality against Meshy.
- Idol — Sperid Labs Apache-2.0 single-image → 3D Gaussian splat. Not Iris-3B T2I.
How we pick
- Weights actually published on Hugging Face (not rumor).
- License copied from the card or the linked LICENSE file, even when the HF label is “other”.
- Image-to-3D (Gaussian splat or mesh) — not T2I, not parametric CAD, not Three.js code.
- No quality ranking against Meshy; we have no sourced bake-off.
Comparison
| Name | License | Developer | Type / output | Parameters |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Idol | Apache-2.0 | Sperid Labs | image, 3d | ~1.80B (card full request) |
Listed models: Idol (Sperid Labs ungated Apache-2.0 image-to-3D Gaussian splat, 299 likes / 504 GitHub stars, added 2026-11-02; card ~7.2 GB peak VRAM; not Iris-3B T2I). Related still-image generation lives on Midjourney-class alternatives. Parametric CAD is on SolidWorks alternatives. Video is on Runway alternatives. Three.js code (not a splat) is Qwen3.5-4B-3D-Coder on Claude Code alternatives.

Why Idol is on this hub
People who search “open source Meshy alternative” usually want a local, downloadable image-to-3D path with a readable license. On 2026-11-02 we opened the public Hugging Face API for speridlabs/idol (created 2026-10-28, ungated, pipeline_tag image-to-3d, license tag apache-2.0) and the public GitHub repository speridlabs/idol-sdk (504 stars, Apache-2.0). The README describes one picture in, a 3D Gaussian splat out.
Meshy itself is a hosted AI 3D studio. The homepage we opened (meshy.ai) calls Meshy “a free AI 3D model generator that turns text or images into ready-to-use 3D models.” The Image to 3D feature page names browser upload (PNG/JPG/WebP, 20 MB), Meshy 6 / Meshy 7, and exports including FBX, OBJ, GLB, USDZ, and STL. We use the Meshy mark only to identify that hosted image-to-3D search. We did not run Idol against Meshy 6, Meshy 7, or Meshy 7.1.
Luma, Tripo, and TRELLIS sit in the same search cluster. They do not have dedicated hubs here. Idol’s card publishes a self-reported H100 table that names TripoSplat, TRELLIS, and LGM. Those rows stay on the Idol page and stay vendor.
What “local” means here
Idol’s SDK clones GitHub, pip install -e ., and samples a .ply. The first run also downloads two gated image encoders (DINOv3 ViT-H+/16 and the FLUX.2 VAE). Accepting those encoder cards is a separate step from the ungated Idol weights. Hosted huggingface.co/spaces/speridlabs/idol is a different artifact from the weight grant.
What we left out
We do not list unofficial Gradio wrappers, ComfyUI graphs we have not run, or closed APIs. Qwen3.5-4B-3D-Coder writes Three.js HTML — that is a coding job, not this hub. Iris-3B is T2I on Midjourney-class alternatives.
How to choose (without a quality score)
- Need a local image-to-3D splat identification URL: Idol.
- Need pixel-space / latent T2I, not 3D: Midjourney-class alternatives (Iris-3B is the same lab, different job).
- Need parametric CAD, not a generated splat: SolidWorks alternatives.
- Need code that renders a 3D scene in the browser: Qwen3.5-4B-3D-Coder.
- Need video, not 3D: Runway alternatives.
What “open” does not mean
Idol’s weight card is tagged Apache-2.0 and the SDK LICENSE is Apache License 2.0. The two encoder cards the README requires are gated and under their own terms. That is not “one file, no login.” Meshy’s OG image on this hub identifies the commercial search, not a claim that Idol clones that UI.

FAQ
Is there a free open-source Meshy alternative I can run locally?
The option we have sourced is Idol (speridlabs/idol): an ungated Apache-2.0 image-to-3D Gaussian splat (299 likes / 4,194 downloads in the 2026-11-02 API check). Card peak VRAM is 7.2 GB. Output is a 3DGS .ply, not Meshy’s hosted GLB/FBX/OBJ studio. We have not compared quality with Meshy.
What about Luma, Tripo, or TRELLIS?
Those names identify the same commercial / paper product class (image or text to 3D). This hub uses Meshy as the durable search. Idol’s own card publishes a self-reported table that names TripoSplat, TRELLIS, and LGM — vendor rows, not a forkalt ranking. Luma and Tripo have no dedicated pages here.
Is Idol the same as Iris-3B?
No. Iris-3B is Sperid Labs’ 3B pixel-space text-to-image model on the Midjourney hub. Idol is the same lab’s image-to-3D splat. Different job.
What about Qwen3.5-4B-3D-Coder?
That is a community 4B LLM that writes Three.js HTML. It does not emit a Gaussian splat or a mesh. See the 3D-Coder page and Claude Code alternatives. It is not a Meshy alternative.
