Is Matomo free?
The git tree is GPL-3.0 (LICENSE, 2026-10-21). Self-host is the software we list. The project also sells cloud. That is freemium, not a quality rank.
What does it take to install?
README (2026-10-21): PHP 8.1.0 or greater; MySQL 8.0+ or MariaDB 10.6+; pdo/pdo_mysql or MySQLi. Five-minute install, then paste a JavaScript tag. We have not run that install.
Is the “1,400,000 websites” figure yours?
No. That sentence is in the upstream README. It is a vendor claim, not a forkalt count.
